Your forest has a secret

🌿 Natural Lifestyle Letters

Fall is definitely here, Reader. The rains and chill have allowed me to rely on my hot beverage staples and enjoy the warmth of spicy Nordic glogg, hot chocolates, and tea.

While sipping a cup of tea, it is good to let the mind wander and find new ways to add natural beauty to home.

The time of summer and abundance has turned into harvest time and amazing fall colors that are easy to enjoy at home, too.

When walking in the forest, gather a bouquet of blueberry branches that have their fall colors or the resistant tansy flowers that are still thriving.

Tie a heather flower bouquet with a jute ribbon to your front door, or make a beautiful natural wreath with the amazing raw materials that nature gives us.

Here is one simple wreath I did using onlyrowan berry branches. Simple yet so beautiful - even as dried, the rowan berries keep their color!

Natural wreaths are one of the joys of the fall and wintertime.

It is so easy to pack in the bag some pincers and wire when heading to the forest and create a wreath base from willow branches or birch branches that the fall winds drop down (more than you can ever use!).

Don't forget to reserve a canvas bag for any decorative materials you find in the forest. It will definitely come in handy!

Keep your eyes open to what would make amazing fall decorations, as you can find beautiful moss, lichen, acorns, and dried flowers that you didn't expect.

Plan your own fall or winter wreath with these steps:

  1. First, choose your wreath base: twig, willow, straw, metallic hoop...
  2. Choose the size of your wreath base depending on the place where you want it to be: Measure the size of your front door, kitchen cabinet, or the ideal size for your wall. Let the base be 10-15 cm (4-6 inches) smaller than the ideal size of the final wreath.
  3. Choose one base plant and 1-3 other complementary natural elements for decoration: For example, for a fall wreath, you could choose blueberry branches, maple leaves, or other fall leaves as the base to cover the wreath, and then add some wheat branches, pine cones, or rowan berries with guidance of the next step.
  4. Consider the decorative rhythm of your wreath. Decide whether you want a repetitive pattern, a decorative bouquet placed in the middle of the wreath (up or down of the hoop), or off-center.

Let your decisions be intuitive and see what your imagination can create. I guarantee the more you make quick and intuitive decisions in choosing the materials and natural elements, the more beautiful and natural the outcome will be.
