Simple tips on saving money as a homemaker

If you missed past weeks' newsletters you can read them all here.

Hi Reader,

You know the people who tell "You can get rich overnight using these hacks!"

Well, you know that I am not one of those.

Everyday homemaking management is based on recurring things and repeating small habits that compound slowly. When you aim for a natural lifestyle, one big thing is to intentionally use the resources and materials you have without overconsumption.

Over the years, these are the six things that I have learned that make a big impact in the long run:

  1. Reuse instead of single-use
  2. Borrow instead of owning
  3. Repair & maintain instead of throwing away or letting it dust
  4. Be intentional instead of unplanned
  5. Do it yourself or thrift instead of buying new
  6. Choose sustainable choices over quick fixes

These are frugal ways to save money. They might not sound fancy, nope. But there are ways you can implement any of these steps in your own household in the areas needed.

I beg you: never go all in fast if you are looking for a sustainable change!

Start with only one step, start with "reuse instead of single-use", for it is the one that takes quite a short time to implement.

Next time, when you are about to buy something single-use - let's say coffee filters - think about other reusable options like reusable coffee filters, or use a French Press to skip the need of buying filters again. (You can make darn good iced coffee with French press, by the way!)

And tea drinkers - buying loose leaf tea and brewing it using a tea strainer, saves both nature and money. The single-packed tea bags fill up a big box but don't contain much tea in the end, and you are paying more of the packaging anyhow.

It's the small steps.

One step after another.

I give you more examples on the full post about homemaking tips. Get more inspiration and actionable tips on tweaking and adjusting your finances with small steps from that post.

Every day makes a difference. ♡
