I had underestimated this one completely

If you missed past weeks' newsletters you can read them all here.
Reader, at a certain point I realized that I had underestimated snacks completely when thinking about a healthy and natural lifestyle.

Snacks are sneaky.

You buy one bag of salty nuts and a month later you realize that - hold on! I bought ten tiny bags last month with plenty of salt, unhealthy oils, and additional things to keep them dry, crunchy, cloured, or whatever. Let alone the amount of tiny plastic bags that are now piling up on the landfill nor the price per weight that is - well priceless.

Ouch.

Sometimes those moments come in handy to make us realise things and make some smooth changes.

Well, that's when I fell in love with almonds.

Did you know, that almonds are a fantastic source of antioxidants, vitamin E, calcium, manganese, and magnesium, just to name a few of the nutrients that almonds contain? (Source.)

On top of that these beautiful little tree nuts that originate from the Middle East are a protein and fiber-rich snack that our family has learned to rely on. Also, the regular consumption of almonds can help reduce high cholesterol levels, and the risks of heart problems (source).

If you are wondering how much almonds you should eat daily, the general advice is to eat about 23 almonds a day for your health benefits.

It's about one big handful of almonds.

The best of course is to enjoy the unsalted almonds and dry roast them without random oils. Otherwise, there is no remarkable nutritional difference between roasted, raw, or flavored almonds (source), so you can get the same nutrients in any form, so seasoning the almonds is totally okay too!

Here are some ways to use roasted almonds if only snacking them feels boring.

Turn your almonds into almond milk or almond butter with a food processor. Use them in muffins or almond cakes, or mix them in your homemade granola. Crush some almonds to roll in the crêpes, sprinkle on the top of salads and soups, or wrap them in a small piece of carton paper, and tie a bow to give as a natural gift. You can drop some almonds in your glogg or follow the Nordic Christmas tradition and hide one almond in the rice porridge to let the founder have good luck for the next year.

Every day makes a difference. ♡
