🕯️ Creating a cozy, natural home

Natural Lifestyle Letters

Dear Reader,

we are stepping into the slower season — the time of soft light, quiet evenings, and the simple comfort of home. 🤍

When the light fades, I always feel drawn to simplify life and focus on the small things that bring calm. The darker months can feel heavy, so I’ve learned to create an atmosphere that restores — not drains — my energy.

That’s why keeping it cozy, Nordic hygge way, is the key during the dark time. It’s the kind of warmth that gently gives back the energy the darkness tends to take.

It’s all about making your space naturally cozy — with soft light, natural textures, and the quiet beauty of simple things.

Use these gentle ways to create that cozy, natural atmosphere at home:

Create light with a natural glow

When the light fades early, I love softening the evenings with candlelight. Homemade beeswax candles with honeycomb pattern have a calm, golden tone and the subtle scent of honey that instantly makes a space feel alive.

Use warm, natural textiles

A woollen throw blanket on the couch, a linen tablecloth, or a soft cushion in earthy tones — these small touches make a huge difference. They remind us that warmth doesn’t come only from heat, but from texture and comfort.

And yes, a warm drink always helps too (more cozy winter beverages coming next week!).

Keep it simple and intentional

This is the season to let your home breathe. Instead of adding more, focus on the things that truly make you feel at peace. I love the Swedish philosophy of lagom, “just enough” — not too much, not too little — the kind of balance that lets life flow gently.

Bring nature indoors

A branch of spruce, a handful of pinecones, or a few dried herbs can transform a space. Nature carries its own kind of calm. You can tie a simple winter wreath or, if it’s cold enough, make ice lanterns.

Even a small balcony can become a cozy corner with a few evergreens and a candle in a jar.

If you enjoy creating a natural atmosphere for the season, I’ll be sharing more ideas for handmade decorations, simple gifts, and sustainable wrapping in my Natural Christmas Letters, sent on Tuesdays until Christmas. You can subscribe here.

Every day makes a difference ♡

Rooibos chai latte in a brown mug with cinnamon powder on the top and a cinnamon stick. Around smoe autumn leaves with all the colours.

Natural Lifestyle Letters Hi Reader, today as I promised you I am publishing my very favourite recipe! The spicy chai latte is one of my favourite autumn and wintertime beverages. I used to make it with black tea, but when my four-year-old daughter loooved it and wanted to sip it with me (basically every day), I preferred to dial down the caffeine that she would have from it. Using rooibos bush leaves instead of black tea gives earthy flavours to accompany spices like cinnamon and cardamom,...

A glass of Nordic Hibiscus glogg on a wooden serving baord with cinnamon sticks.

Natural Lifestyle Letters When it’s cold outside, Reader, nothing creates a cozier feeling than a warm homemade beverage that is warming your hands, body and soul. If you’d ask a Nordic what that beverage would be, well, 90% would say: “Glogg of course, it’s winter isn’t it?“ If you have never tasted glogg, it is a warm spiced juice that is often bit on the sweeter side. Many want their glogg stronger and mixing some red wine, calvados or even rum. Glogg is like a close friend of mulled wine...
